Context

Advance Purity is a D2C cosmetics store with a curated catalogue, strong brand voice, and a flat product grid that did the work of category sorting but very little of the work of guidance. First-time visitors landed on a page of products and had no clear path from “what do I need?” to a purchase.

Problem

The storefront’s conversion rate told the story: visitors with no prior brand affinity bounced. Repeat customers converted fine — they already knew the routine they wanted. The missing surface was a guided experience for new buyers who knew they wanted something for something but couldn’t translate that into a basket.

Approach

We designed an in-store skincare advisor framed as a short, friendly quiz — skin type, concerns, goals, budget — that ends in a personalised routine + bundle recommendation. Critically, the recommendation explains why each product fits, so the customer trusts the suggestion. The advisor runs as a React island embedded into the existing storefront, not a separate microsite.

What we built

  • Quiz flow — 4–6 questions, conversational tone, single-screen progression
  • Recommendation engine — LLM-driven matching between customer profile and product catalogue
  • Reasoning copy — each recommendation surfaces 2–3 sentences explaining the fit
  • Bundle constructor — auto-assembles a routine (cleanser → treatment → moisturiser → SPF) within the customer’s budget
  • Storefront-embedded — runs inside the existing Shopify storefront, not a separate funnel
